New Work by artist Troy Mattison Hicks will be shown at Brooklyn's Yashar Gallery.

Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY. April 5th-25th 2012. Opening party Thursday April 5th 6-10pm

Yashar Gallery presents NEW WORK, a solo exhibition of new work by TROY MATTISON HICKS. Please join us on Thursday April 5th 6-10pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist.

In the exhibition, Hicks presents a series of highly stylized close-ups of the male face, bending light and color into something hyper-real, futuristic and modern. These lip studies are meant to evoke a feeling of a future where synthetic and human features are hard to distinguish, yet may be equally as beautiful. Hicks works with many top models and agencies in NYC to achieve his unique vision.

Troy Mattison Hicks is a self taught artist originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Born into a family of taxidermists, Hicks has always experimented in many different mediums. In his early twenties he was one of the youngest artists to be represented by the prestigious Robert Cargo Folk Art Gallery. Being an outsider artist has allowed Hicks the flexibility to always try new things and to not be tied down by any lack of education in any particular medium. His experimental music as Zelium Quang exemplifies this untrained artist aesthetic as Hicks knows not a single musical note, but yet crafts some pretty phenomenal psychedelic pop. And the success of his handmade accessories line Necklush has given way to new adventures in men’s fashion photography and music video production.
