For Immediate Release

There is a stalled construction site in Brooklyn sitting vacant, listless, half-built and deserted. Why is it there? Where did the people who built it go? Will it ever become something useful? Or has it already become a modern ruin?

Pretty Vacant is a group exhibition featuring more than 80 NY-based artists.

What would happen if 80 artists were given free-reign in an empty museum and 1 week to produce whatever they saw fit? What would they do? Would they make paintings on the walls? Or knock down the walls and build sculptures out of the debris? Who would be in charge? What if the museum was actually an abandoned building?

Pretty Vacant will be on view by appointment from May 2 – May 14. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, April 30 from 6:00 – 10:00pm.

What would happen if 80 artists worked independently in a shared space for 1 week and the only requirement was that each artist light their own work? Would the shell of a forsaken building provide a framework for a unified vision? Or would the crumbling walls, broken windows and scattered piles of left-over building-materials create a breeding-ground for disorder and fragmented ideas?

Pretty Vacant will take place at 95 4th Street in Gowanus, Brooklyn in an abandoned building.

Pretty Vacant is conceived, organized, funded, and produced solely by the artists involved. After the opening reception on April 30th, viewings can be arranged by appointment from May 2 – May 14th. Photo and video documentation will be made available.

Dana Vindigni at Yashar Gallery through March 25

Most of the time it is rare for me to remember what I dream. I think my dreams are simply constructs of what I have experienced in my daily life without the filter of my conscious mind. A filter made of repressed emotion, judgment and societal scrutiny. Illustration is my personal key to unlocking and investigating this wonderful part of my mind. Columella is a presentation of works that depict some of the imagery I have recollected over the years, floating in my psyche. Each piece carries a unique message and it is my hope that the work establishes an emotional connection the audience.
