BAS Artists Recognized in Juried Show

The Greenpoint Gallery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, held its first ever, massive, open call, juried art show event on Friday, April 9, 2010. In true salon fashion they covered every inch of gallery wall space with over 200 artworks by 60+ artists. The event was very well attended and 25 works were sold.

Brooklyn Art Studios artists BiZzid and Carla E. Reyes, were both recognized as runner-ups and will be invited to participate in a future curated group exhibition at the Brooklyn non-profit space. Stay tuned for more details about the upcoming show…

BiZzid was 2nd runner-up and sold the painting pictured above (top left). Carla was a 4th runner-up with her mixed-media works from her Miscommunications Series.

FEATURED ARTIST: Christina Dallas

The work of Christina Dallas is mixed media, mainly involving her use of photography, referencing its use as a tool of documentation to institutions, as well as to its deeper magical and psychic properties that become a testament to memory and proof of the existence of a physical self and the ability of the camera to become a conduit to deeper explorations of the soul.

Featured Artist: Maya Batash

As a painter, my art is about tapping into one's unconscious emotions. I focus on the inner beauty of the world around us, rather than on the external appearance alone. I want to make people feel, as well as to see. Although my paintings have elements of reality -- my hope is to transcend reality, and invite the viewer to enter that unelaborated space, where an awareness of one's soul and of a higher power can be felt. Similarly my films are about using the senses to go beyond the senses--using music and visuals to create an experience that is powerfully felt, rather than merely understood.
