"Yashar Gallery and Brooklyn Art Studios are pleased to present PIRO’KLASTIK, an exhibition by Jessica Krause Smith. PIRO’KLASTIK is the phonetic spelling of the word “pyroclastic”. which means “relating to, consisting of, or denoting fragments of rock erupted by a volcano.” The title evokes both nature and mythology, and relates to the organic, eruptive, and haphazard feeling in much of Jessica’s work. With multi-layered, colorful, textured, gestural and dynamic markings, her work explores spontaneity in the painting process. The final works are often reminiscent of known shapes and objects, and often become metaphors of her personal experiences”
PIRO’KLASTIK’s opening reception is on Friday, April 28 from 6-9 PM, in conjunction with Greenpoint Gallery Night, and is on view to the public April 29 – May 13 on Saturdays and Sundays, from 2–5 PM, or by appointment only.
Yashar Gallery is at 276 Greenpoint Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11222 between Newell and Jewel Streets. The nearest subway is the G train at Greenpoint Avenue and by bus, the B24 to Greenpoint Ave/Jewel St.
